With its strong antimicrobial properties (there is evidence suggesting it is more potent than Australian tea tree oil (University of Heidelberg, Germany)), Manuka essential oil is active against a large number of micro-organisms. An effective antifungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, a few undiluted drops of Manuka essential oil can help athlete's foot, insect bites, cuts and abrasions and it has practical applications on cold sores, chicken pox, warts and insect bites. Two drops of Manuka on the end of a cotton tip makes an excellent acne spot-treatment and a few drops added to shampoo can help an itchy, flaky scalp.
