Essential Oil Dilution/Usage Guidelines
The dilution levels for essential oils vary depending upon their intended use. The most common dilutions are listed below:
5-6 drops essential in a burner, vaporizer or diffuser. Oil should always be floated in water in order to prevent it from burning.
2-3 drops in a bowl of water water.
1-2 drops in a clean hankerchief.
Mix 5-10 drops essential oil with 1 teaspoon of solubilizer then add to a full tub. Use warm, not hot, water. (Try Alchemilla's AROMA SOLUBILIZER).
Mix 5 drops with 1 teaspoon solubilizer and add to a bowl containing 2 cups hot or cold water.
20 drops per 4 ounces carrier oil/lotion.
Mix 15 drops essential oil with 1 teaspoon solubilizer and add to a spritzer bottle filled with 2 fl.oz of distilled water. Shake well.
20 drops to 4 ounces of shampoo base.
Remember that essential oils are very concentrated - one drop goes a long way. Pure essential oils are volatile and easily penetrate skin. Some can cause skin irritation or sensitivity if not diluted correctly, or if they are used in high concentrations. Remember to patch test for sensitivity and be sure to only use 100% pure essential oils from a trusted source.
