Jasmine, known in India as "Queen of the Night", is a perennial climbing shrub, with a perfume that is said to be its strongest at night. The heady fragrant flowers of Jasmine yield one of the world's most precious essential oils.
Research in 2010 has found that the aroma of jasmine essential oil helped soothe, relieve anxiety and promote rest, and acted as effectively as sedatives and sleeping pills.
Jasmine is a stimulating essential oil and has a particular affinity with the female reproductive system. Some have used Jasmine for lower back massage during the early stages of labor, to help alleviate pain and strengthen contractions.
