Alchemilla \al-ke-mil-lah\From the lush meadows and crystal-clear stream banks of Europe and Asia springs a delightful little plant called Ladies Mantle, of the genus Alchemilla. Also known as ‘Little Magic One,’ this charming herb’s scientific name is derived from alkemelych – the Arabic word for alchemy. Indeed, medieval alchemists believed Ladies Mantle was a source of powerful magic, and each morning they collected the sparkling dewdrops poised atop this humble plant’s upturned leaves for use in mystic potions. Modern research has revealed that Alchemilla’s ‘magic’ is not hocus-pocus at all. In fact, today’s herbalists and botanists have identified the properties in Ladyies Mantle that make it one of Mother Nature’s most potent healing herbs. But just in case, we’ll be collecting the morning dew from Lady's Mantle leaves from our own thriving crop...you never know what magic may result!
